Xiaomi sold the Redmi Note 6 Pro with 4000 mAh, and BN48 battery model name is the label its pack carries. Listings print either 4000 mAh, the typical value, or 3900 mAh, the rated line, both at about 3.85 V.

The Note 6 Pro sat between the Note 5 Pro and Note 7 in Xiaomi's line-up, and the packs of all three look alike. The code on the label is the only reliable way to tell them apart.

The phone behind the BN48 battery model name

Every BN48 listing we checked names the Redmi Note 6 Pro and nothing else. That makes BN48 one of the simpler Xiaomi codes: one phone, one pack.

Why the Note 6 Pro has its own code

The Note 6 Pro introduced a notched 6.26 inch screen and dual front cameras, which changed the internal layout compared with the Note 5 Pro. The battery had to change shape to fit around new components, so Xiaomi gave it a new code even though the capacity stayed at 4000 mAh. This is common: a new code often means a new outline rather than a new capacity.

Same capacity, different shapes. A BN45 will not sit correctly in a Note 6 Pro.

Confirming the code

The About phone screen will read Redmi Note 6 Pro. Its rear is aluminium with plastic end caps, which a repairer lifts as one piece to reach the cell. A proper BN48 sticker lists the code, the 3.85 V nominal rating, the upper charge voltage and both capacity figures.

The Note 6 Pro is an old phone and many original BN48 cells have aged badly. If the screen is rising from the frame, a swollen cell is pushing it. Stop charging and let a repairer remove it.

What a fresh BN48 brings

A new 4000 mAh pack gives the Note 6 Pro around a day of light use again. Its micro USB port and 10 W adapter mean roughly 150 minutes from low to full. Because the phone no longer receives updates, consider whether a battery or a newer phone makes more sense for your daily needs.

Spotting a poor copy

BN48 copies are common because the Note 6 Pro sold widely. Weak ones are lighter, have smudged print and claim 5000 mAh or more. Compare the replacement with the old cell side by side before it goes in. Every other Xiaomi pack sits in the BN, BM and BP roundup, and our fitting checklist covers the first charge and the tests that follow.

Keeping an old Note 6 Pro running

Besides the battery, older Redmi phones often slow down because storage is full. Clearing old videos and unused apps can make the phone feel quicker and reduce background drain. If you are keeping the Note 6 Pro as a backup phone, charge it to about half and switch it off between uses; a lithium cell left empty for months may never charge again.
