The BN8 battery model name does not match any Xiaomi pack we could trace; every Xiaomi BN code has two characters after the letters, such as BN51 or BN46. When someone types BN8, it is usually a shortened reading of the label or a mix of the code with the phone name Redmi 8.
The phone most people mean is the Redmi 8 or Redmi 8A, whose pack is sold as BN51 at 5000 mAh. This page helps you work out the real code from your label so you do not order the wrong battery.
Quick facts
Why the BN8 battery model name gives no result
Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO packs follow a fixed pattern: BN or BM or BP, then a digit and another character. You will see BN51, BN46, BN5A, never a bare BN8. A label that seems to say BN8 is almost always a longer code read in a hurry, or a sticker with the last character worn away.
The other source of BN8 searches is the phone name. Owners of a Redmi 8 sometimes type the model number next to BN and hope it matches. It does not, but it tells us which battery they need.
The codes people usually mean
| Full code | Phones in most listings | Listed capacity |
|---|---|---|
| BN51 | Redmi 8, Redmi 8A | 5000 mAh typical (some list 4900) |
| BN46 | Redmi 7, Redmi Note 8, Note 8T | About 4000 mAh |
| BN48 | Redmi Note 6 Pro | About 4000 mAh |
Our Redmi 8 battery page covers the BN51 pack in detail.
How to read the full code on the label
Ask the technician to wipe the sticker and photograph it under a bright light. The code sits near the word Model or next to the capacity line. Count the characters after BN. If there are two, you have the real code. If one is smudged, compare the outline and connector with a known BN51 pack before ordering.
Another route starts from the handset itself: the About phone screen names the exact Redmi model, and the Redmi battery model list maps models to codes.
A Redmi 8 whose old cell is swollen should not be charged while you wait for the replacement. Keep it off and away from soft furnishings, and let a service centre take the pack out.
Why searches add vivo to BN8
Some people type "vivo bn8 battery model name". vivo cells use a B, a hyphen and two characters, such as B-O5 or B-S1, and none of them reads N8 in any listing we checked. A vivo owner who sees something like BN8 is probably looking at a worn B-letter code or a sticker from a different brand. Check the phone maker printed on the back and the model under About phone, then use the right family list: the vivo battery model list or the Redmi one above.
Do not order a pack called BN8 online
Some marketplace listings use BN8 in the title because shoppers search for it. Those packs are usually generic BN51 copies with a vague label. If a listing does not print a full two-character code on the cell itself, skip it. A genuine replacement shows the full code, a batch number and a capacity close to the original, not a jump to 6000 mAh.
Capacity of the Redmi 8 battery
Both the Redmi 8 and the 8A went on sale as 5000 mAh handsets; that advertised number is the typical one. Some replacement listings print 4900 mAh, the rated minimum. Both are the same battery class. More background on these two numbers is on our battery capacity page.
Frequently asked questions
Which phone has the BN8 battery model name?
None, as an exact code. People who type BN8 usually own a Redmi 8 or 8A, whose battery is sold as BN51.
Is BN8 the same as BN51?
No. BN8 is incomplete. Owners of a Redmi 8 or 8A will usually find BN51 printed on the cell, though the sticker decides.
What is the capacity of the battery people call BN8?
Assuming your label really says BN51, sellers quote 5000 mAh typical or 4900 mAh as the minimum.
Can a BN46 pack fit a Redmi 8?
Do not assume so. BN46 belongs to the Redmi 7 and Note 8 family. Go by every character of the code printed on the old cell.
