The iPhone 17 Pro battery capacity is 4252 mAh, about 16.6 to 16.7 Wh, in the eSIM-only version, according to Apple's EU energy label listings. That is roughly 19 percent more than the iPhone 16 Pro's 3582 mAh.
Like the Pro Max, the 17 Pro comes in two builds. Versions with a physical SIM tray, which include the models sold in India, use the space for the tray and carry a smaller cell. Reports put it near 4000 mAh, but we have not confirmed that figure from Apple.
Quick facts
iPhone 17 Pro battery capacity by build
| Model | Capacity |
|---|---|
| iPhone 16 Pro | 3582 mAh |
| iPhone 17 Pro, eSIM-only | 4252 mAh |
| iPhone 17 Pro, SIM tray | Smaller, see check note |
| iPhone 17 Pro Max | Two builds, see its page |
Why the SIM tray changes the battery
Removing the physical SIM slot frees a little space inside the frame, which Apple uses for a larger cell in eSIM-only countries. Phones sold where a SIM tray is still expected, such as India, keep the tray and a slightly smaller battery. The difference in daily use is modest, but it explains why two people can quote different capacities for the same model.
iPhone 17 Pro battery capacity compared with Android flagships
Android flagships now often carry 5000 to 6000 mAh or more, so 4252 mAh can look small. The comparison is misleading on mAh alone: Apple's chips are very efficient, and iOS manages background work tightly. In independent battery tests, the 17 Pro generally holds its own against Android phones with much larger cells. If you are moving from a big battery Android phone, expect similar or slightly shorter screen time, not dramatically less.
Checking battery health on the 17 Pro
Go to Settings, then Battery, then Battery Health and Charging. Maximum Capacity starts at 100 percent and falls with use. Apple also lets you set an 80 percent charging limit there, which slows wear for people who keep the phone plugged in for long periods. The Apple battery support page explains each setting.
Battery life in practice
Apple's efficient chip and the larger cell give the 17 Pro noticeably longer screen time than the 16 Pro, and most owners reach the end of a heavy day with charge left. Fast wired charging with a high wattage USB C adapter refills about half the battery in around half an hour.
Replacement when the time comes
Apple and authorised service providers fit genuine cells, and iOS can recognise them. A third-party battery may show an unknown part message. For other models, the all iPhones table lists every capacity, and the iPhone 17 page covers the base model.
Apple publishes watt hours and hours of use; mAh figures come from filings and Apple's EU labels.
When a 17 Pro battery needs attention
For a phone this new, a fast draining battery is usually a setting or an app, not a worn cell. Check the battery screen for apps with high background use, and see whether a recent iOS update is still indexing photos in the background, which can take a day or two. If Maximum Capacity drops unusually fast in the first year, a battery defect inside the first year falls under Apple's warranty. Our health check guide covers the general steps.
Frequently asked questions
What is the iPhone 17 Pro battery capacity?
4252 mAh in the eSIM-only build, about 16.6 Wh, per Apple's EU listing.
Does the India iPhone 17 Pro have the same battery?
Models with a SIM tray, as sold in India, carry a smaller cell. Reports put it near 4000 mAh.
How much bigger is it than the iPhone 16 Pro?
The eSIM-only 17 Pro holds about 19 percent more than the 16 Pro's 3582 mAh.
Can I limit charging to 80 percent on the 17 Pro?
Yes, in Settings, Battery, Battery Health and Charging.
Does a bigger battery make the 17 Pro heavier?
Slightly. The eSIM-only build uses the space freed by the SIM tray, so the extra capacity adds little weight.
