The MC50 battery model name, in phone terms, belongs to the Moto G9 Power: a US retailer lists its MC50 replacement (Motorola part SB18C87844) for the XT2091-3 and XT2091-4 versions of that phone. Motorola sold the G9 Power with a 6000 mAh battery, and a European seller prints 5800 mAh at 3.85 V for the same cell, which reads as the minimum figure.

Search results for MC50 are muddled because Symbol, later Zebra, made a barcode scanning handheld also called MC50. Its battery is a small 1660 or 3600 mAh pack and has nothing to do with a Moto phone.

Only the Moto G9 Power turns up with this code in phone battery listings. It went on sale in India as a big-battery budget handset, and its XT2091 model numbers are what the listings name. We found no second Moto phone using MC50.

Why the G9 Power battery reads 5800 and 6000

Motorola's advertised 6000 mAh is the typical value. A European parts shop prints 5800 mAh beside 3.85 V for its G9 Power cell, roughly 22.3 Wh, which is the lower bound such a pack has to reach. Both refer to one battery. A pack claiming 7000 mAh in the same body is padding its label.

Background on these paired figures sits on our guide to battery capacity.

Confirming MC50 before you pay

Motorola phones list their XT number on the About phone screen under the regulatory or model line. An XT2091 tells you the phone is a G9 Power. The MC50 marking sits on the cell beneath the G9 Power's glued plastic rear. Have the old cell photographed once the back is off, and compare the letters MC, the digits 50 and the voltage line with the new part.

Big 6000 mAh cells store a lot of energy. If an ageing G9 Power has a raised back or smells odd while charging, unplug it straight away, set it on a tiled floor and get the pack removed by a trained person.

MC50 among the other 50 suffix packs

The digits 50 turn up on a whole run of Motorola cells. JK50 powers the G7 Power and G8 Power Lite, QF50 other G models, and NH50 the Moto G22. Each letter pair is a different size or connector, so a JK50 cannot stand in for MC50 even though both are big batteries. The Motorola and Samsung code index lists the rest.

Living with a 6000 mAh Moto

The G9 Power was built for two days of use, and a healthy pack still delivers that for light users. It charges at 20 W, so expect close to three hours from flat. If yours now fades by evening, check whether an app update is keeping the screen awake or the location on, before blaming the cell. When the battery is genuinely worn, a fresh MC50 brings the phone back to its old stamina at a fraction of a new phone's cost.
